The Difficulties of College English Teaching Reform and Their Strategies in Colleges of Minority Mountainous Areas

The newly-issued syllabus for College English(trial) puts the teaching requirements of College English into three levels, namely, normal,higher and the highest.The syllabus points out that the teaching aim of College English is to develop the student’s integrated skills of English,in particular the skills of listening and speaking.It is a dramatic revolution to use the computer in College English education in contrast to the traditional pedagogy.However,colleges in minority mountainous are facing some difficulties,such as the shortage of fund,the lack of enough qualified English teachers and the lower English level of the students.Facing these problems, we should be aware of the importance of the teaching reform, the investment of teaching apparatus,the mode of“computer plus traditional methodology”,more channels to train our teachers and which studying level our students should reach in accordance with their English knowledge.
