Effect of Telmisartan on Expression of MCP-1 in OLETF Rats with Insulin Resistance

Abstract

Objective: To investigate the efficacy of angiotensin II type\(AT1) receptor blocker,telmisartan in OLETF rats with insulin resistance.Methods: Twenty-two male OLETF rats were fed with high-fat diet for 32 weeks to establish the insulin resistance model with hyperlipidemia.Twenty male OLETF rats with insulin resistance models were randomly assigned into two groups,the model group,in which the rats were fed with high-diet;the telmisartan group,in which the rats were fed with high-diet and telmisartan.After 16 weeks of drug intervention,the plasma levels of fasting blood glucose(FBG),fasting insulin(FINS),free fatty acids(FFA) and monocyte chemotactic protein-1(MCP-1) were detected in two groups.Results:After 16 weeks of telmisartan treatment,the insulin resistance and lipid metabolism were improved in OLETF rats.The serum MCP-1 was significantly lower in the telmisartan group than that of the model group(t = 2.88,P 0.05).The serum lipid level was also significantly improved.Conclusion: Telmisartan can improve blood glucose and insulin resistance by inhibiting the expression of MCP-1 and regulating serum lipid level.
