Abstract

Objective: To investigate the effect of telmisartan on the diabetes of OLETF rats fed with high-fat diet. Methods: According to OGTT 2 h and body weight, thirty OLETF rats were randomly divided into the telmisartan group(group T),the metformin group(group M),and the high-fat diet group(group O).Twelve LETO rats fed with normal diet served as normal control group(group NC).At forty-eight weeks,MCP-1 gene expression in adipose tissue,FFA,MCP-1,FBG,FINS in serum and HOMA-IR were measured. Results: The expression of MCP-1 in adipose of group T(0.20±0.12) and group M(0.17±0.19) were significantly lower than that in group O(1±0.3) and had statistical significance respectively(P0.01).Compared with group O,MCP-1,FFA,FBG in serum and HOMA-IR were significantly decreased in group T(P0.05).Conclusion: Telmisartan can ameliorate IR and prevent diabetes of OLETF rats fed with high-fat diet by decreasing MCP-1 mRNA of adipose tissue.
