Abstract

Objective To investigate the protective effects of Atractylodes-Zedoary extracts on acute liver injury induced by carbon tetrachloride(CCl4) in mice. Methods Acute liver injury of mice was induced by intraperitoneal injection of CCl4,after the mice was intragastrically treated with Atractylodes-Zedoary extracts for 7 days. After 16 hours, the contents of alanine aminotransferase(ALT) and aspartate aminotransferase(AST) in serum and the activities of superoxide dismutase(SOD) liver tissue and the liver index, the spleen index were detected. Results Atractylodes-Zedoary extracts remarkably inhibited the rises of serum ALT and AST,and increased the activities of liver tissue SOD in liver injury mice, meanwhile reduced the liver index(P0.01).Conclusions Atractylodes-Zedoary extracts have protective effects on the acute liver injury induced by CCl4 in mice.
