Relationship between serum level of Hcy and retinopathy in type-2 diabetes patients with cerebral infarction

Objective To detect the serum level of homocysteine(Hcy)and the degree of retinopathy in type-2 diabetes patients with cerebral infarction.The relationship between Hcy and diabetic retinopathy(DR)and its significance to cerebral infarction was investigated.Method A total of 92 type 2 diabetes patients(44 with cerebral infarction and 48 without any complication)and 40 healthy controls were subjected to detect the serum level of Hcy,the incidence and degree of diabetic retinopathy by fundus fluoresce in angiography after convention test.Result Compared with those of the healthy controls and the patients without cerebral infarction,the serum level of Hcy,the incidence of high serum Hcy,and the incidence and the degree of diabetic retinopathy in type-2 diabetes patients with cerebral infarction were significantly higher(P0.05).There was positive relationship between the serum level of Hcy,and the degree of diabetic retinopathy in type-2 diabetes patients(r =0.733,P 0.05).Conclusion The serum level of Hcy and diabetic retinopathy are both risk factors for cerebral infarction of type-2 diabetes patients.
