Abstract

Objective To compare the results of laparoscopy and laparotomy in cystectomy of benign ovarian cysts. Methods One hundred fifty patients with bengin ovarian cysts requiring surgical management were randomly devided into laparoscopy group(76 cases)and laparotomy group(74 cases). The characteristics of patients, mean operating time, frequency of rupture of the cysts during operation, estimated blood loss, postoperative morbidity and analgesic requirment, hospital stay and recovery period were compared. Results There were no differences in age, body weight, previous laparotomy, size of cysts, operating time and rupture rates of cysts between two groups(P0.05).Laparoscopy was associated with a significant reduction in intraoperative blood loss, postoperative fever rate, nalgesic requirment, hospital stay and recovery period(P0.001,P0.05).Conclusion Laparoscopy is superior to laparotomy in cystectomy of beninarian cgn ovysts.
