Effect of Telmisartan on Essential Hypertension and Left Ventricular Hypertrophy

Objective To discuss the effect of telmisartan on patients with essential hypertension and left ventricular hypertrohpy.Methods 84 patients with essential hypertension and left ventricular hypertrohpy who ceased to take antihypertensive drugs two weeks later,were randomly divided into two groups.The treatment group were taken telmisartan 80 mg,qid,and the control group were taken captopril 25 mg,tid.Medicine doses were adjusted with the changes of blood pressure,for clinical observation of 6 months.The blood pressure and left ventricular hypertrophy before and after treatment were compared between the two groups.Results The blood pressure in both the treatment group and the control group reduced,with significant difference before and after treatment(P 0.01),but without comparatively significant difference between the two groups(P 0.05);left ventricular hypertrophy in the two groups were reversed,with significant difference before and after treatment(P 0.01),but without comparatively significant difference between the two groups(P 0.05).Conclusions Telmisartan and captopril can effectively reduce blood pressure,and reverse left ventricular hypertrophy as well.
