Abstract

Objective To explore the role of IL-18 in the pathogenesis of acute cerebral infarction. Methods The study included 46 patients with acute cerebral infarction and 30 healthy people as control.Serum IL-18 was measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay(ELISA)respectively at 1,3,7,14 days. Results Compared with control group, the serum levels of IL-18 at 1,3,7,14 days in patients with acute cerebral infarction were increased significantly(P0.05),the level at 3rd day was the highest in patients with acute cerebral infarction. There was a positive correlation between the increasing degree of serum levels of IL-18 and the size of infarct area(P0.05).Conclusion Serum IL-18 was increased significantly in patients with acute cerebralinfarction, which possibly played a key role in the pathogenesis of acute cerebral infarction, therefore anti-inflammatory drugs maybe will become potential new therapeutic agents for acute cerebral infarction.
