Clinical significance of HER-2 protein expression in Human Gastric Carcinoma

Objective To investigate the correlation between HER-2 protein expression and clinicopathological factors of gastric carcinoma.Methods HER-2 protein expression was detected by immunohistochemistry(Envision) in 70 gastric carcinoma specimens,and the corresponding clinical and pathological characteristics were also analyzed.Results The positive rate of HER-2 protein expression was 27.1%(19/70).HER-2 over-expression rate was 15.7%(11/70).HER-2 protein expression was associated with the tumor differentiation,invasion depth,lymph note metastasis and TNM stage(P 0.05),but not with sex,age,tumor site and tumor size(P 0.05).Conclusion HER-2 expression may participate in the development,invasion and metastasis of gastric carcinoma.Detecting the HER-2 status is a prerequisite of? trastuzumab monoclonal antibody(Herceptin) therapy for gastric carcinoma,and can assess the malignant biological behaviors and prognosis of gastric carcinoma.
