Expression of HER2 and EGFR protein and their clinical value in gastric carcinoma

Abstract
Objective To study the expression status of HER2 and epidermal growth factor receptor(EGFR) in gastric carcinoma and their association with clinical pathologic characteristics.Methods The expression of HER2 and EGFR in specimens of gastric carcinoma tissues was detected with immunohistochemical method;the correlation of HER2 and EGFR expression and the clinical pathologic characteristics was statistically processed.Results Positive expression of HER2 and EGFR existed in gastric carcinoma ti-ssues in comparison to the normal tissue around the tumor tissue(P0.01).The expression of HER2 and EGFR genes was statistically associated with the grades of differentiation,invasion depth,lymphatic metastasis and TNM stage of tumor tissues(P0.05,P0.01)and the positive correlation between the two protein expression appeared in gastric tumor tissue.Conclusion Gastric carcinoma cell expresses HER2 and EGFR proteins positively;they could serve as the significant biological markers of the prognosis of gastric carcinoma and a theory foundation of molecular target for gastric carcinoma therapy.
