Expression and clinical significance of HER-2 and HER-3 genes protein in gastric cancer

Abstract
Objective To investigate the expressions of HER-2 and HER-3 proteins in human gastric tissues and its correlation with clinical pathological factors. Methods The expressions of HER-2 and HER-3 proteins in 161cases of gastric carcinoma and 20 cases of normal gastric tissues were detected using immunohistochemistry method,and the association between the expression and the clinicopathological parameter of gastric carcinoma was analyzed. Results The positive results of HER-2 in gastric carcinoma and normal tissues were 10. 6% and 0 of the total,respectively( P 0. 01). The positive results of HER-3 in gastric carcinoma and normal tissues were 55. 9% and 5. 00%,respectively( P 0. 05). High expression of HER-3 was associated with tumor invasion depth,lymph node metastasis,stage,the invasion of nerve and vessel and worse survival( P 0. 05); The expressions of HER-2 was associated with intestinal-type gastric cancer( P 0. 05). Conclusions HER-3 may be used to assess the malignant biological behavior and prognosis of gastric cancer.
