Abstract
【Objective】 To study the therapeutic effect of functional endoscopic sinus surgery(FESS) on chronic nasal sinusitis in children.【Method】Fouty-nine children(73 sides) with FESS were retrospectively analyzed from Feb 1999 to Feb 2004.There were 32 boys and 17 girls ranging in age from 8 to 16 years. From history,CT and nasal endoscopic examination, the patients were divided to chronic nasal sinusitis(23 sides in 16 cases) and nasal polyp combined with chronic nasal sinusitis(50 sides in 33 cases).【Results】FESS were under general anesthesia in 27 cases and local anesthesia in 22 cases respectively.Thirty cases were followed-up for above 6 months and 19 cases above one year. There were 35 cases(71.4%) cured,12 cases(24.5%) improved and 2 cases(4.1%)invalid.Reoperation were adopted to 3 children.【Conclusion】FESS is an effective method for chronic sinusitis in children. The surgery has advantages such as small incision, precise manipulation and thoroughly eradication of the lesion. It is important for improving postoperative efficacy to follow-up promptly and treat complication correctly.
