Analysis on Mortality Rate and Years of Life Lost of Cancer in Taizhou in 2010

[Purpose] To describe the mortality of cancer in residents of Taizhou and its influence. [Methods] Death cases of local residents were collected from death surveillance system in Taizhou. Mortality rate,age-standardized mortality rate,potential years of life lost (PYLL),PYLL rate and the average years of life lost (AYLL) were calculated. [Results] The mortality and age-standardized mortality of cancer in Taizhou were 245.56 per 100 000 and 154.05 per 100 000 ,respectively,accounting for 38.10% of total deaths in 2010. It was found that mortality increased with the growth of age. The ratio of mortality for male and female was 1.77∶1. The top five leading causes of death were cancers of esophageal,stomach,liver,lung and colorectum. The PYLL of cancer was 57 989 person years,PYLL rate was 11.74‰,and AYLL was 5.47 years. Liver cancer had the highest PYLL. [Conclusions] The mortality of cancer is high in Taizhou. The cancers of esophageal,stomach,liver are the most common malignant neoplasms severely impairing local resident health and the key point of tumor on the comprehensive prevention.
