Abstract
Objective To investigate the mortality rate, distribution characteristics, and years of life lost(YLL) of pancreatic cancer in residents of Huaian during 2009-2011 for prevention and control of the disease. Methods Based on demography and death data collected through Huaian Disease Surveillance System,2009-2011,the mortality rate,age-standardized rate, cumulative rate, potential years of life lost(PYLL),and the average years of life lost(AYLL) were calculated. Results The crude mortality rate, the age-standardized rate, and the cumulative rate(0-74 year sold) of pancreatic cancer were 3.88/100 000,3.08/100 000,and 0.38%,respectively.The age-standardized mortality rate was less lower in urban areas(3.00/100 000) than in rural areas(3.16/100 000) and higher in male(3.57/100 000) than in female(2.69/100 000).Pancreatic cancer mainly endangered the health of middle-aged and elderly people with a median mortality age of 69 years. The majority(92.62%) of pancreatic cancer deaths was observed in the age group of 50 year and over. The PYLL of pancreatic cancer was 4 680 years and AYLL was 7.7 years. The PYLL and AYLL of pancreatic cancer were higher in male(2661 and 8.0 years, respectively) than in female(2019 and 7.3 years, respectively). The PYLL and the AYLL was higher in urban areas(2414 and 7.8 years) than in rural areas(2266 and 7.3 years). Conclusion The mortality of pancreatic cancer in residents of Huaian is higher and mainly endangers the health of middle-aged population.Years of life lost induced by pancreatic cancer are heavier in males and in urban residents.
