Exploring Shen Congwen's Modernity from His Five Prefaces

In the interview given by Ling Yu,Shen Congwen said that his five prefaces are the best way to approach his writings.They are the prefaces to Border Town,The Long River,The Collection of Shen Congwen's Practice Writing,The Collection of Shen Congwen's Novel,Xiang Xi,respectively.Shen Congwen's personality and thinking are all reflected by his prefaces that he is not a hermit living away from the society,but he expresses his unique feeling towards the society,life and humanity through a special way,which seemingly makes him keep away from the mainstream of literary world.But it is his reflection,his criticism,his anxiety and tragic consciousness that he expresses in his prefaces embodies adequately his modernity.
