Abstract

Objective To study the change of gastrointestinal motility and motilin(MTL),vasoactive intestinal peptide(VIP) in plasma in rats with severe head injury(SHI) and to investigate the factors of gastrointestinal motility disturbance following SHI.Methods Sixty-four male Wistar rats were randomly divided into sham operated groups and SHI groups at 6,24,48,72h(8 rats each group). The gastric emptying, intestinal transmission rate and content of MTL,VIP in plasma were detected. Results The gastric emptying, intestinal transmission rate were significantly weakened, and the content of MTL in plasma was significantly heightened in rats at 6,24,48,72h following SHI.The content of VIP in plasma had no statistical change at 6h,but it descended significantly at 24,48h and heightened gradually at 72h.Conclusion The gastrointestinal motility disturbance were shown at 6h and lasted 72h in rats following SHI,it correlated to the content of MTL and VIP in plasma.
