Internal fixation with W-shaped Kirschner wire combined tension band in treatment of patellar fracture

Objective To investigate the clinical efficacy of internal fixation with W-shaped Kirschner wire combined tension band to treat patellar fracture.Methods 38 cases of patellar fractures were fixed with W-shaped Kirschner wire combined tension band after anterior exposure and reduction.Results 38 patients were followed up for 8 to 24 months.All the patients achieved healing and the surface of patellar resumed smooth without Kirschner wire loosening and breakage.Acording to Lysholm standard,excellent result was found in 36 cases,and good in 2.Conclusions Fixation patellar with W-shaped Kirschner wire combined tension band to treat patellar fracture overcomes the complications because of the Kirschner wires revolve to wound skin and influence the recovery of function.It has advantages of easy to operate,small operation wound,firmly fixation,which permits movement early and meet the biomechanical principles.The results are satisfactory.
