Abstract

Objective To assess the effects of home noninvasive positive pressure ventilation(HNPPV) on patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD) during stable phase. Methods Thirty patients with COPD during stable phase were divided into two groups.Sixteen patients in observation group were treated with HNPPV,long-term domiciliary oxygen therapy was used in control group(14 cases).Pulmonary function, arterial blood gas analysis;6min walk distance(6MWD),Seattle obstructive lung disease questionnaire(SOLQ),case fatality and the time of hospitalization per year were observed. Results Two years later, two cases(12.5%) died in observation group,6 cases(42.9%) died in control group, the case fatality was lower in observation group than that in control group(P 0.05).In observation group, the partial pressure of carbon dioxide in artery(PaCO2) decreased, and the time of hospitalization lowed obviously, but the partial pressure of oxygen in artery(PaO2),6MWD,scores of SOLQ respectively increased. There was a statistically significant difference between two groups(P 0.01).Both FEV1% and FEV1 /FVC% decreased in two groups, but observation group was slowly. There was a statistically significant difference between two groups(P 0.05).Conclusion HNPPV is an active and effective measure on patients with COPD during stable phase.
