Abstract

Aim To investigate the clinical distribution and drug resistance of Acinetobacter baumannii to the routine antibiotics from 2007 to 2010 in the affiliated hospital of Beihua University in Jilin Province. Methods Acinetobacter baumannii were identified by Vitek-32 automatic bacterial identification system.Drug resistance test was then performed by K-B method. Results A total of 375 Acinetobacter baumannii strains were isolated from various clinical specimens from July 2000 to June 2010.The nosocomial infection due to Acinetobacter baumannii showed a rising trend. They happened most commonly in the sputum specimen, the second was in pus. Most specimens were in the department of respiration, followed by the department of burn and plastic surgery and ICU.Most isolates were resistant to all antimicobial agents tested except imipenem. Conclusions A total of 375 Acinetobacter baumannii strains were isolated from sputum and pus specimens. They have the high isolation rate from the the departments of respiration, burn, plastic surgery and ICU,respectively.Acinetobacter baumannii was only sensitive to imipenem. Thus the surveillance of drug resistance of Acinetobacter baumannii should be strengthened.
