Abstract

Objective: To compare the efficacy of treatment between captopril and the combination therapy by puerarin and captopril for patients with chronic heart failure. Methods: Altogether 148 patients with chronic heart failure, from the First People’s Hospital of Huaihua between June 2008 and June 2012,were randomly assigned to a captopril group(n=74) or a captopril + puerarin group(n=74) after admission.Changes in clinical symptoms were observed and analyzed after 4 weeks treatment. Results: After treatment for 4 weeks, the most of patients in 2 groups were cured and the total effective rates for the captopril group or combination group were 55/74(74.32%) or 65/74(87.83%),respectively.There was significant difference in efficacy between the 2 groups(χ2=4.4048,P0.05).Conclusion: The combination therapy by puerarin and captopril for patients with chronic heart failure is more effective than captopril treatment alone and it is worth to recommend the combination therapy for the clinical application.
