Abstract

Aim:To study the effects of self-drilling mini-implant as orthodontic anchorage in simultaneous incisor retraction in adult patients with bimaxillary protrusion.Methods:Twenty-six cases were randomly allocated into 2 groups. Mini-implant was used in the cases of experimental group as orthodontic anchorage at the stage of space closure, and the control group was treated by traditional sliding mechanics.Cephalometric analysis was taken before and after orthodontic treatment. Results: The extraction space of all the patients were closed.Overbite and overjet were improved significantly in all the patients. The edge of upper incisors retracted by (12.10±3.40) mm at average, lower incisors retracted by (2.45±1.70) mm at average, upper molars moved (1.15±1.00) mm at average, and there was statistical difference between the 2 groups(P0.05).Conclusion: Mini-implant system could be used as an efficient method to reinfore the orthodontic anchorage.
