Abstract

Objective: To investigate the clinical outcome of bimaxillary protrusion following the treatment with micro-implant as (orthodontic) anchorage.Methods: Fourteen patients were selected according to the selection criteria and randomly divided into 2 groups: experiment group(using micro-implant as the orthodontic anchorage) and control group(using traditional orthodontic anchorage).Cephalometric measurements before and after the treatment were used to evaluate the clinical outcomes.Results: The anterior teeth reached the expected position in both groups 6 to 8 months after the treatment.The mesial movements of upper and lower first molars were 0.29 and 0.56 mm in experiment group and 1.36 and 1.96 mm in control group,and the retractions of upper and lower incisors were 6.93 and 6.03 mm in experiment group and 5.79 and 6.03 mm in control group.Conclusion: Micro-implant can provide necessary anchorage to retract the front teeth in the clinical treatment of bimaxillary protrusion.
