Abstract
Objective To explore the relationship between serum homocysteine(Hcy) level and ischemic cerebrovascular disease and type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) in elderly patients.Method Determined the serum Hcy level of 42 elderly patients with ischemic cerebrovascular disease,38 elderly patients with T2DM and 35 healthy old people. Results The level of serum Hcy significantly increased in the group of elderly patients with ischemic cerebrovascular disease(P0.05).No significant difference was observed between the serum Hcy level of T2DM group and normal control group. Conclusion Elevation of serum Hcy level is a risk factor for ischemic cerebrovascular disease in elderly people. The level of serum Hcy has nothing to do with T2DM.
