The value of serum β-HCG and progesterone in the early diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy

Abstract
Objective To explore the value of serum β-HCG and progesterone in the early diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy.Methods Serum β-HCG and progesterone were assayed of 46 cases were suspected to be ectopic pregnancy and 48 women who were intrauterine gestation.Results The serum β-HCG and progesterone value in ectopic pregnancy group were significantly lower than those in intrauterine gestation group(P0.01).When the cut-off point of progesterone was15ng/ml,the sensitivity and the specificity were 91.3% and 93.75% respectively,and the positive predictive value and negative predictive value were 93.3% and 91.8% respectively in the diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy.Conclusion Combined assaying Serum β-HCG with progesterone can enhance the sensitivity and the specificity in the diagnosis of ectopic pregnancy.
