Influence of Electro-acupuncture Combined with Paroxetine on Life Quality of Patients with Depression

Objective To study the clinical effect and side-effect of electroacupuncture combined with Paroxetine for patients with depression and their life quality change.Methods Sixty-two patients with depression were randomized into two groups:The patients in the trial group were treated with electro acupuncture in combination with Paroxetine,while those in the control group were given Paroxetine only.The Hamilton rating scale for depression(HAMD)and Asberg Rating Scale for Side Effects(SERS)and World Health Organization Quality of Life-Brief Version(WHOQOL-BREF)were used for assessments before and after the treatment.Results The total effect was better in the trial group than in the control group(P0.01).The HAMD score began to decrease since the end of 1st week treatment in the trial group and since the end of 2nd week treatment,with a significant difference as compared with that before treatment(P0.01).The WHOQOL-BREF scores in the psychological and environmental domains showed significant differences between the two groups(P0.05).The SERS scores at the ends of 2nd and 4th week also showed significant differences between the two groups(P0.05).Conclusion Electro-acupuncture combined with Paroxetine is more effective than Paroxetine alone in the treatment of depression,with a faster response,less adverse effects and better life quality.
