Abstract
Objective To investigate the expression and significance of Pokemon (POK erythroid ontogenic factor) protein in primary breast cancer. Methods The expression of Pokemon protein was detected by using immunohistochemieal techniques (S-P) in 52 cases of primary breast cancer,20 cases of adjacent noncancerous breast tissue and 20 cases of mammary gland hyperplasia, and the clinical and histopathologic records were retrospectively analyzed. Results ①Pokemon protein was located in the nuclear and plasma of breast cancer cells. The rate of strong positive nuclear Pokemon expression was significantly higher in breast cancer than in adjacent noncancerous breast tissue and mammary gland hyperplasia (P0.05),and the rate of strong positive nuclear Pokemon expression was 71.2%(37/52),40%(8/20) and 25%(5/20),respectively.②The rate of strong positive nuclear pokemon expression was significantly higher in breast cancer with axillary lymph node metastasis (82.8%) than that in breast cancer without axillary lymph node metastasis (56.5%,P0.05).Conclusion The nuclear Pokemon overexpression is probably related to carcinogenesis and axillary lymph node metastasis of primary breast cancer.
