Abstract

Objective To study antioxidant activities of extracts from Berchemia polyphylla var.leioclada in vitro.Methods The powder of B.polyphylla was treated with 80% ethanol.The ethanol extract was extracted respectively using petroleum ether,ethyl acetate,n-butanol.Hydroxyl free radical(·OH),DPPH free radical(DPPH·) and deoxidization Fe3+ reaction system were used to observe in vitro antioxidant effects of the above extracts.Results Compared with the ascorbic acid(Vc),the extracts had strong scavenging effect on free radicals,the activity sequence for scavenging ·OH was Vc ethyl acetate extract petroleum ether extract n-butanol extract water layer extract,which corresponding IC50 values were 0.061,0.099,0.344,0.770 and 1.709 mg/ml respectively;The capability of scavenging DPPH was Vc n-butanol extract ethyl acetate extract water layer extract petroleum ether extract,and the corresponding IC50 values were 0.004 6,0.011 1,0.019 2,0.028 3,0.058 6 mg/ml respectively.Different extracts have strong deoxidization ability of Fe3+,the activity sequence was Vc ethyl acetate extract n-butanol extract petroleum ether extract water layer extract.Conclusions B.polyphylla has the stronger antioxidative activities and will be widely applied on antiaging.
