Abstract

Ethanol( 80%),petroleum ether,ethyl acetate and n-butanol were used to extract antioxidants from Helwingia chinensis leaves. The antioxidant activities of extracts in vitro were compared by experiments of the hydroxyl free radical( ·OH),DPPH free radical( DPPH·) and deoxidization Fe3+ reaction system.Compared with the ascorbic acid,the extracts from Helwingia Chinensis showed stronger scavenging effects on the free radicals. The activity for scavenging ·OH was in order of ethyl acetate extract n-butanol extract petroleum ether extract water extract total ethanol extract,whoes corresponding IC50 values were 0. 484mg / mL,0. 737 mg / mL,0. 775 mg / mL,0. 855 mg / mL and 1. 008 mg / mL,respectively. The DPPH·-scavenging effect was in order of ethyl acetate extract water extract n-butanol extract total ethanol extract petroleum ether extract,and their corresponding IC50 values were 0. 047 mg / mL,0. 06 mg / mL,0. 061 mg /mL,0. 073 mg / mL,0. 721 mg / mL,respectively. All of the extracts demonstrated strong deoxidization ability to Fe3+,among which the n-butanol extract ranked the first.
