Clinical Study on Treatment of Asthma during Remission Stage in Children with Xianba Decoction

Objective To observe effects of Xianba Decoction,a traditional Chinese prescription,in treating asthma during remission stage in children.Methods Sixty children with asthma were randomly divided into treatment group and control group.Patients in both groups were routinely treated with the inhalation of glucocorticosteroid.Additionally,patients in the treatment group were treated with Xianba Decoction.The treatment course was for 3 months.The attacking times and the severity of asthma were observed and compared during 3 months.The plasma levels of cortisol were assayed.Results The attacking rate of asthma during 3 months was significantly decreased(P0.05),and the plasma levels of cortisol after treatment were significantly increased in treatment group.There was a significant difference in above-mentioned indexes between the two groups(P0.05).Conclusion Xianba Decoction combined with inhalation of glucocorticosteroid could decrease the attacking rate of asthma in children.Its mechanism might be related to the increased level of plasma cortisol.
