Abstract
Objective: To establish UV and HPLC methods for determination of total flavonoids, galangin and chrysin in Propolis. Methods: UV method was used to determine total flavonoids, and the detection wavelength was415 nm. The analysis of Galangin and Chrysin was performed on a Welchrom C18column with a gradient solvent system of methanol- 0. 15% phosphoric acid solution, and the detection wavelength was 268 nm. Results: The linear range of rutin was 0 ~ 1. 248 mg( r = 0. 999 9),and the average recovery was 98. 82% with RSD 1. 45%. The linear range of galangin and chrysin in propolis were 0. 089 ~ 0. 445 0 μg and 0. 115 ~ 0. 580 μg,both with good correlation( r =1. 000). The average recovery were 99. 03% for galangin and 99. 32% for chrysin, and RSD were 1. 10% and1. 72%,respectively( n = 6). Conclusion: The methods are simple and reliable for quantitative analysis of propolis, its extracts and products, and can be used for quality control and evaluation.
