Abstract
Objective To discuss the possible mechanism of glucocorticoids in the treatment of nasal polyps by detecting the changes of RANTES expression and the number of eosinophils. Methods 40 cases with nasal polyps were treated with atomization of nasal inhaled budesonide(1 mg or 2 mg) and 20 treated with normal saline were chosen as control. The expression of RANTES was detected by immunohistochemical technique and the number of eosinophils was counted before and after treatment. Results The expression of RANTES decreased after the treatment of budesonide(P0.05) and the changes in patients treated with 2 mg budesonide were more dramatic than those treated with 1 mg budesonide.Meanwhile, the number of eosinophils decreased correspondingly. The changes in the control group were statistically insignificant(P0.05).Conclusion RANTES actively participate in the process of eosinophilic inflammation.Budesonide may present some anti-inflammatory effects by down-regulating the expression of RANTES.
