Clinical Observation on treatment of chronic apical periodontitis with different root canal filling materials

AIM:To compare the clinical effect of treatment of chronic apical periodontitis with vitapex paste alone or combined with gutta-percha. METHODS: 212 patients with 273 infected teeth were randomly divided into three groups. Group A were treated with vitapex paste alone. Group B were treated with vitapex paste plus gutta-percha. Group C were treated with traditional zinic exide olive oil paste plus gutta-percha. Periapical radiograph was taken before and after 1 year. RESULTS: After one year, success rates of three groups were 96.70%, 98.90%, 89.01% respectively. Difference between Group A and C, Group B and C were significant( P 0.05). CONCLUSION: The vitapex paste is a new and simple filling material and shows better clinical treatment effect using alone or combined with gutta-percha. It is suitable for widespread adoption in root canal treatment.
