Abstract
According to cognitive linguistics,there are two major mechanisms of word meaning extension:metonymical thinking based on contiguity and metaphorical thinking based on similarity.Our research finds that the two ways of thinking are like points on a continuum.The present paper gives a further analysis of polysemy by analysis of head and hand .
