Abstract

This paper is aimed at discussing polysemy from the cognitive perspective.It first presents the existing reasons of the metaphorical models: metaphor and metonymy,which are the origins of the word meanings.Then it explores the semantic formation of words and their cognitive interpretations for polysemy.Finally the author concludes that analyzing the metaphorical phenomena from the cognitive perspective has a strong interpretive force in the shifting of part of speech.
