Abstract

Objective To study the effect of octreotide on cell viability, protein kinase B and telomerase activity in human gastric cancer cell line SGC7901.Methods After incubation for 0,12,24,48 hours in different concentration of octreotide, MTT assay was used to determine the cell viability. Akt/PKB and telomerase activities were respectively detected. Results SGC7901 cells exhibited a dose-dependent inhibition of growth. The Akt/PKB and telomerase activity of SGC7901 cells was significantly inhibited by octreotide for 12, 24 and 48 h(P 0.01). Conclusion The antiproliferative effect of octreotide on SGC7901 cells might be mediated by the inhibition of Akt/PKB and telomerase.
