Abstract

Objective:To evaluate the accuracy and diagnostic value of 64-slice CT in the preoperative staging of rectal cancer.Methods:Fifty-one patients with histological proven rectal cancer and undertaken preoperative 64-slice CT examination were enrolled. The characteristics of image, involving local invasion, lymph node metastasis and visceral metastasis, were analyzed and compared with the findings of pathological examination after surgery. Results:The accuracies of 64-slice CT at the T-stage,N-stage and M-stage of rectal cancer were 84.3%(43/51),84.3%(43/51),98.0%(50/51)respectively;the overall staging accuracy of 64-slice CT for all 46 patients was 74.5%(38/51).Conclusion:64-slice CT is a precise and reliable tool for preoperative staging in rectal cancer, which can provide useful information for clinicians in preoperative assessment and selecting suitable and effective operative procedure for patients.
