The effect of losartan/hydrochorothiazide combination on mild-and middle essential hypertension

Objective To evaluate the effect and safety of losartan/hydrochlorothiazide combination(Hyzzar) therapy on mid-to-moderate essential hypertension.Methods All patients(30 cases) received Hyzzar 1～2 pills once daily.Blood pressure and laboratory indexes were measured to evaluate its effect and safety.At the end of 1,2,4,6,8 weeks after treatment,blood pressure,heart rate(HR) and adverse reaction were recorded.Results Systolic blood pressure(SBP)/diastolic blood pressure(DBP) decreased significantly from (150.0±16.8/103.0±5.6)mmHg to (138.6±13.3/93.3±6.9)mmHg after 1 week and to (129.2±12.6/87.4±7.8)mmHg after 8 weeks.There was no change in heart rate.Adverse reactions were slight.Conclusion Hyzzar has a quick and stable effect of lowering blood pressure and is nearly a perfect drug for essential hypertension with little adverse reactions.
