Effect of eplerenone and losartan on arterial stiffness and insulin-like growth factor 1 in patients with mild to moderate essential hypertension

Objective:To explore the effect of eplerenone and losartan on arterial stiffness and insulin-like growth factor 1(IGF-1) in patients with mild to moderate essential hypertension. Method:A total of 84 patients with mild to moderate essential hypertension(90 mmHg≤diastolic pressure 110 mmHg,and 140 mmHg ≤systolic blood pressure 180 mmHg,1 mmHg=0.133 kPa) was divided into eplerenone group and losartan group(42 cases each).Each patient had daily oral eplerenone or losartan 50 mg once respectively.Every 2 weeks return visited once.The hepatorenal function,electrolyte,blood sugar,blood fats,blood routine test,urine routine test and automatic ABPM(blood pressure monitor),baPWV(the pulse wave velocity) and IGF-1 were detected before and after 12 weeks treatment. Result:Blood pressures reduced significantly after treatment 12 weeks in two groups(P0.05),but there was no difference between two groups.The general data had no difference between two groups.Compared with treatment before,the 24 hourly average systolic pressure and average diastolic pressure,daytime average systolic pressure and average diastolic pressure,nighttime average systolic pressure and average diastolic pressure,baPWV and IGF-1 decreased significantly after treatment,but there was no obvious difference between two groups. Conclusion:Eplerenone and losartan can significantly reduce arterial stiffness and IGF-1 level in patients with mild to moderate essential hypertension,but there was no obvious difference between the two groups.
