Abstract

'Sheng(生)'is an auxiliary word that appears in the popular literature after Tang dynasty(618-907).Generally,the scholar field considers this character came into being in Tang dynasty,but some scholars hold it was evolved from the character 'xin(馨)' in the period of Wei and Jin dynasties(220-375).The examples in The Songs of Chu and The Odes show that this character already came into being as an auxiliary word before the period of Qin dynasty(221-207 BC) and was the origin of 'sheng(生)'in the following generations.
