An Explanation of “Wu sheng”

Through the ages,the comprehension to the meaning of“Wu sheng”,which appeared in zuo zhuan(tso chuah),has always been a matter of opinion,and consequently there have always been different explanatory notes on it in varied Chinese dictionaries at home and abroad.On the basis of the documents prior to the Song Dynasty and related ancient traditionary medical literature,this article holds that three sorts of the annotations on it,prevailing from the Yuan Dynasty to the present time,are false,and explicates the original and actual meaning of the phrase.
