0.005% Calcipotriol Ointment in the Treatment of Psoriasis Vulgaris in China

Objective To summarize the experience of calcipotriol in treatment of psoriasis vulgaris.Methods We evaluated data on the efficacy and safety of 0.005% calcipotriol topically used in psoriasis vulgaris retrieved from China BioMedical Literatures Database(CBM),covering the period from 1995 to 2011.Only patients reported in the Chinese literature were included in this review.Results Total effective rates of Calcipotriol Ointment topically used only were 43.3% with duration for four weeks,75.8% for six weeks,45.1% for eight weeks,77.6% for 12 weeks respectively.Available adverse reaction occurrence rate was 15.70% in monotherapy appliance,and abnomal laboratory examination was occationally examined.The effects of calcipotriol Ointment topical monotherapy was comparative to tazarotene gel,halcinonide cream,anthralin ointment,calcitriol ointment,and inferior to tacrolimus ointment,calcipotriol betamethasone ointment in treatment of psoriasis vulgaris.Improved effects,low side effects were observed in combination therapy,consequential therapy and occlusive treatment.Conclusion The present study suggests that 0.005% calcipotriol ointments are effective and safe in treatment of patients with psoriasis vulgaris in Chinese patients,more favorable outcome is found in combination therapy,consequential therapy and occlusive methods.
