Abstract

Objective To evaluate the therapeutic effect of functional endoscopic sinus surgery(FESS)for chronic sinusitis and nasal polyps. Methods 127 patients suffering from chronic sinusitis of type 2,phase 3(Haikou standard of 97)received FESS.Their clinical data was analyzed retrospectively. Results All the patients were followed up for 1 to 2 years.99 of them got completely recovered(77.9%),26 improved(20.4%),2 not progressed(1.5%),and 12 relapsed(9.4%).The postoperative complications included lamina papyracea fracture in 17 cases, cerebrospinal rhinorrhea in 1,nasal septal perforation in 2,and nasal adherence in 13.Conclusion Reasonable anaesthesia, skillful surgical technique, profound anatomical knowledge, and proper perioperative treatment are essentials of FESS.
