Negative Freedom and Positive Freedom ——An Interpretation of Isaiah Berlin's Two Liberty Concepts

Abstract
Liberty is the core concept in western political philosophy,and its exploration is an important issue in political philosophy.Upon clarifying liberty concepts in western political thought history,Isaiah Berlin divided freedom into negative freedom(free from……) and positive freedom(free to……).The distinction between these two freedom concepts is his most important contribution to political philosophy.Based on Isaiah Berlin's writings,the thesis tries to analyze the connotation,division and theoretical foundation of his two liberty concepts,and so as to explore the inherent meaning of Berlin's liberty concepts.
