Clinical Significance of Serum Homocysteine and Plasma High Sensitivity C-reactive Protein in Cerebrovascular Disease

Abstract

Objective:To investigate the change of serum homocysteine(Hcy)and high sensitivity C-reactive protein(HsCRP)levels in cerebrovascular disease and the correlationship between Hcy and HsCRP.Methods:Blood samples were collected from 65 patients with cerebral infarction, 45 patients with transient ischemic attack(TIA)and 55 control patients without cerebrovascular disease.The concentrations and abnormal rate of Hcy and HsCRP were determinated by means of electrochemical luminescence and immunoturbidimetry,respectively.Results:Both Hcy and HsCRP levels and abnormal rate in the patients with cerebrovascular disease increased significantly as compared with the controls(P0.05),and correlation was found between Hcy and HsCRP (P0.05).Conclusion:The abnormality of the Hcy level and high sensitivity C-reactive protein level may be linked to cerebrovascular disease.Hcy level and high sensitivity C-reactive protein level are useful to diagnosis and treatment.
