Effects of Jianpi Xiaoji Decoction Combined with Chemotherapy on Life Quality and Immune Function in Patients with Advanced Colorectal Cancer

Objective To observe the effects of Jianpi Xiaoji Decoction,a traditional Chinese medicine for invigorating spleen-qi and removing food retention,combined with chemotherapy on quality of life(QOL) and immune function in patients with advanced colorectal cancer.Methods A total of 60 patients were averagely randomized into treatment group and control group.Patients in the two groups were treated with the same FOLFOX4 chemotherapy regimen;additionally,patients in the treatment group were treated with Jianpi Xiaoji Decoction.The short-term efficacy,body mass,QOL,and immune function were observed and compared between the two groups.Results There was no significant difference in the total response rates between the two groups(40.0% vs 36.7%,P0.05).Compared with those before treatment,the body mass and Karnorfsky scores were significantly increased in the treatment group(P0.05),while they showed no significant changes in the control group(P0.05).QOL was significantly improved in the treatment group compared with the control group(P0.05).Compared with those before treatment,the proportions of cluster of differentiation 3 positive(CD3+),and cluster of differentiation 4 positive(CD4+) T lymphocyte subsets were significantly increased in the treatment group after treatment(P0.01);while the proportions of CD3+ and CD4+ T lymphocyte subsets showed an increasing tendency with no significant difference(P0.05).The incidence of diarrea in the treatment group was significantly lower than that in the control group(P0.05).Conclusion Jianpi xiaoji Decoction combined with chemotherapy in the treatment of advanced colorectal cancer can improve the immune function,reduce adverse reactions,and improve QOL.
