Abstract

Objective To investigate the relationship between plasma visfatin level and glucose lipid metabolism in type 2 diabetes mellitus.Methods Forty-eight newly diagonosed patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM) including 27 cases of overweight and 21 cases of normal weight and 32 healthy controls were enrolled.The indexes of BMI,WC,WRH,blood pressure were determined;the fasting plasma visfatin,lipid,glucose,OGTT and IRT were detected;insulin resistance index(HOMA-IR) and insulin secretion index(HOMA-B) were caculated and statistical analysis was conducted.Results The level of plasma visfatin in T2DM patients was significantly higher than that of control group(P0.01),but there was no significant difference between overweight group and normal weight group.The level of plasma visfatin was positively correlated with fasting plasma glucose(FPG),postprandial 2 h blood glucose(2h PG),HOMA-IR(allP0.01),and negatively correlated with HOMA-B(P0.01).Multiple linear stepwise regression analysis showed that 2h PG was an independent related factor of plasma visfatin.Conclusion The increased plasma visfatin level in newly diagnosed T2DM patients may be a compensatory response against the increased blood glucose and impaired insulin function.
