On the Stylistic Features of English Business Contracts from the Perspective of Register Theory

Abstract

As the functional variety formed in legal and business contexts,English business contracts are characterized by accurate diction,terse structure and formal style.Based on Halliday's three variables of register theory——field,tenor and mode,this article aims to explore the stylistic features of English business contracts in terms of vocabulary,syntax and text,pointing out that register theory plays an important role in understanding and writing of English business contracts.
