Abstract
Business contract,a business contract style of writing,demonstrates special features in cohesive ties with formal textual pattern,clear and logical structure,and accurate diction.Based on the functional linguist Halliday's three variables of register theory:field,tenor,and mode,it aims to explore the rhetorical features of vocabulary,syntax,and text of English business contract.It is concluded that the theory of register is very important for the writing of business contract.
