Therapeutic Effects of Colon Hydropathy and Enema of TCM on Constipation-irritable Bowel Syndrome

Objective To observe the therapeutic effects of colon hydropathy and enema of Traditional Chinese medicine(TCM)on constipation- irritable bowel syndrome(C- IBS). Methods A total of 103 the patients were divided randomly into treatment group 1(n=32),treatment group 2(n=37)and control group(n=34). Group 1 was treated with enema of TCM(composed of Huang-qi,Da-huang,Huang-qin,Huang- lian,Bai-shu),Group2 was treated with colon hydropathy and enema of TCM,and control group was orally given medicine tablets Phenolphthalein. Results The effective rate of Group 1 was 93.75%,Group 2 was 97.3%,and control group was 35.3%,the treatment groups showed a significant effect than the control group(P0.01). The relapse rate of Group 1 was 31.8%,Group 2 was 12%,and control group was 75%,with a significant difference between them(P0.01). Conclusion The effects of colon hydropathy and enema of Traditional Chinese medicine are definite in the treatment of C-IBS,which is better to prevent constipation relapse compared with only clyster treatment with herbal medicine decoction.
