Abstract

OBJECTIVE To evaluate the clinical efficacy and safety of edaravone in the treatment of acute cerebral infarction.METHODS One hundred and thirty-seven patients with acute cerebral infarction were randomly divided into two groups. The control group(n=68) received conventional therapy only, while the treatment group(n=69) received additional edaravone 30 mg,iv gtt, bid.for 14 days. RESULTS The scores of neurologic impairment and activities of daily living(ADL) were improved in both groups. But the improvement in the treatment group was greater than that in the control group(P0.01) 14 days and 21 days after the treatment. At the 21st day,the excellence rates in the treatment and control groups were 63.8% and 39.7%,respectively(P0.01),the total effective rates in the treatment and control group were 88.4% and 70.6%,respectively(P0.01).The improvement of ADL in the treatment group was significantly compared with that control group at the 90st day(P0.01).There was no significantly difference in the occurrence of adverse events such as liver dysfunction and hemorrhagic infarction between the two groups.CONCLUSION Edaravone is safe and effective in treating patients with acute cerebral infarction.
